Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project - Staff Attorney
Michigan Advocacy Program has openings for Staff Attorneys with our Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project (CVLAP) focused on domestic violence or elder abuse. This program is a statewide program with attorneys throughout Michigan including Ann Arbor, Alpena, Battle Creek, Escanaba, Detroit, Gaylord, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Marquette, Monroe, Mt. Clemens, Muskegon, Pontiac, Saginaw, Southfield, and Warren.
Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through its local legal services offices, Legal Services of South Central Michigan and Farmworker Legal Services, as well several statewide advocacy programs housed at Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services: Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project, Michigan Poverty Law Program, Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, and Michigan Legal Help Program. For more information, visit miadvocacy.org.
MAP has partnered with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, Legal Aid of Western Michigan, Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, and Lakeshore Legal Aid to provide outreach and a wide range of legal representation and advocacy to victims of crime, primarily domestic violence and elder abuse survivors, under the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).
Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan or be eligible to waive in or to take the next Michigan bar examination. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to underserved populations—experience with issues impacting domestic violence or elder abuse survivors is ideal. Salary starts at $44,000 for new attorneys; salary for experienced attorneys will depend on experience. Includes excellent benefits.
MAP is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage minorities, women and persons with disabilities to apply.
