Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) Coordinator
POSITION: Legal Services of South Central Michigan is seeking a MLP Coordinator to assist with the launch of our Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) in Washtenaw County. This position is part of a new project funded by Michigan Medicine designed to address the social determinants of health for Washtenaw County’s low-income residents. The MLP Coordinator will play a key role in launching this new program and assist with outreach and training for health care providers on identifying legal needs; developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with our medical provider partners; developing/improving screening and referral tools; managing outcome data collection and grant reporting; conducting client intakes by phone and in person, and clerical and administrative tasks. The MLP Coordinator will work out of our new office in downtown Ypsilanti as well as onsite at our healthcare partners’ facilities.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has been providing services to low-income individuals and families for over 50 years. LSSCM’s mission is to provide high quality free civil legal assistance to our most vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on homelessness prevention, domestic violence prevention, and assistance in accessing health care, food, and needs-based income programs. We are the Legal Services Corporation and state-funded civil legal aid provider in southern and central Michigan, covering 13 counties including Washtenaw County. QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication skills are a top priority for this position. An Associate’s Degree or commensurate educational and professional experience is required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidate must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and computer skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations. Prior legal or health-related experience is preferred, but not required. Spanish-language proficiency is strongly preferred, but not required.
BENEFITS: This is a full-time position with a salary starting at $32,000 depending on experience and includes excellent health, disability, and fringe benefits. This is a two-year contract position with the possibility of renewal.
