Michigan Advocacy Program has an opening for a Staff Attorney with our Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project.  The Staff Attorney will work out of the Warren office of our partner program, Lakeshore Legal Aid.

Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through its local legal services offices, Legal Services of South Central Michigan and Farmworker Legal Services, as well several statewide advocacy programs: Michigan Poverty Law Program, the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, the Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, and the Michigan Legal Help Program.

Lakeshore Legal Aid (LLA) is a not-for-profit law firm providing a wide range of free civil legal services to low income people and older adults from 14 locations throughout southeast Michigan including Detroit, Auburn Hills, Southfield, Dearborn, Caro, Port Huron, Riverview, Pontiac, Mt. Clemens, and Warren.

MAP has partnered with LLA to provide outreach and a wide range of legal representation and advocacy to victims of crime, primarily domestic violence and elder abuse survivors, under the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).   This position will focus on services to victims of domestic violence and their families.

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan or be eligible to waive in or to take the next Michigan bar examination. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to underserved populations—experience with issues impacting domestic violence survivors is ideal. Salary starts at $44,000 for new attorneys; salary for experienced attorneys will depend on experience. Includes excellent benefits.

MAP is an equal opportunity employer.  We encourage minorities, women and persons with disabilities to apply.

To apply, send a resume and cover letter with “CVLAP-DV Staff Attorney” in the subject line to Chrissy Peltier at cpeltier@lakeshorelegalaid.org.

If you have questions about the program or the position, please email Amy Myers at amyers@mplp.org.

The position is open until filled and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis (posting date: 4/9/2018).
